Pieter Vonk

Pieter Vonk

Pieter Vonk (Utrecht, the Netherlands) creates abstract portraits driven by intuition, imperfection,
and the physical act of painting. With a background in digital art, his practice began on screen -
a space of control, precision, and endless revision. Over time, that control started to feel limiting.
The work became too clean. Too distant.

After turning forty, Vonk shifted toward painting. Acrylics, oil sticks, and spray paint introduced friction, resistance, and chance. Where his digital work once aimed for perfection, his paintings
now embrace scratches, layers, and visible decisions. The surface carries the process.

In the studio, Vonk works without fixed rules. He allows chaos, interruption, and emotion to lead. Faces emerge, dissolve, and reappear - searching for balance rather than resolution.

Imperfection is not corrected.

It is trusted.
