Pim Leenen

I’m Pim Leenen (1985), a Dutch photographer with a broad interest in everything photography has to offer.

Between 2001 and 2005, I studied Technical Photography in Ede, where I built a solid foundation in the craft, learned to work in the darkroom, and interned at Studio Erwin Olaf. I continued my studies at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Design in Photography. My graduation project, a fictional archaeology of the future, was nominated for the Steenbergen Stipendium. Over the years, I’ve exhibited my personal work at various venues mostly across the Netherlands, including galleries, project spaces, and festivals.

In my work, I’m always looking for what objects might reveal beyond what we think we already know. Photography allows me to take something out of its context and present it in a new way. Using digital techniques, I zoom in extremely close to my subject, transforming objects into forms that are almost unrecognizable. The smallest details, normally invisible to the naked eye, are reproduced with great precision. I arrange my images so they start to interact, creating connections and suggesting new narratives. In that interaction, new meanings emerge.
