Pauline Kamphuis
Pauline Kamphuis makes small-format works in acrylic and ink on paper, each under 10 by 10 centimeters. A drop of ink on wet paint finds its own path — branching into fractal patterns, settling into rings, drifting wherever the materials decide. She has come to understand that letting go is not the same as letting happen. The preparation — the composition of the wet ground — largely determines what is possible. She chooses the colors, the sequence, and the timing. Yet on the same prepared ground, what appears afterwards is never quite predictable.
This series, Emergentie, explores the tipping point between directing and letting go: the moment her hand stops and the material takes over.
