Janine van Herwaarden
My work revolves mainly around color. I want to evoke a sense of joy, for the viewer and for myself. The process of creating is very important to me, and the colors I use are making my process interesting and joyful.
Color is influencing our moods and emotions and can make a huge difference in how you experience the world.
My paintings and wall objects are (semi-)abstract, layered compositions that are created from my imagination.
My inspiration comes from the beauty of daily life, nature, everyday objects. Crafts have always been a large part of my life and keep inspiring me. I love ceramics, pottery, textiles, crochet, knitwork and ancient techniques like sashiko.
Knitting and crochet was something I grew up with, and my grandma has been my most precious role model. My memories of her, her amazing colorful knitwork, the patchwork crocheted bedspread that I was sleeping under when I stayed over, will last forever.
As a result traces of patterns and patchworks are recurring ingredients in my work.
